Pros:
  • Strong engine lineup, unmatched off-road ability, balanced handling, long list of advanced safety equipment, solid warranty.
Cons:
  • Hard plastic interior surfaces could use some padding, less cargo capacity than most midsize SUVs.

  • TERRIBLE NEVER BUYING ANOTHER - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I bought my 05 Jeep Grand cherokee in June of 2008 and have had nothing but problems since day one. Right away the starter went and then from there on the list is endless now the rear end is leaking the car only has 54,000 miles on it and its sitting in a driveway because within the past 3 weeks it has cost me over $2,000 in repairs. love my jeep but it is really getting ridiculous. I am looking into trading it in for a brand new honda, no more jeeps even though I have loved them my whole life. I guess its just the luck of the draw some people have good luck others do not.

I bought a 05 Grand Cherokee after driving a 04 4Runner Sport v8. I have to say that I like the options that you can get on the Laredo. The auto stick was the best thing that ever happened to the SUV buyers. It does wonderful on and off road and awesome when needing to pick up speed. And comes in very handy when driving in snowy weather. Gives you control of your SUV. I have never had problems with the engine light, but then I never let my gas run down to the reserve. Anyone knows that if you do that and it gets lower - the light will come on. Had an adjustment for the transmission in shop once - it needed a supplement fluid put in transmission for the auto stick use. I have never had any problems since.

  • More time at dealer then home - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

First time Jeep owner, mpg city 10, mpg hwy 20. Big problems with trans. When its cold trys to take off in second then shifts hard in to first. Problems going into rev at times, goes in false neutral when stopping sometimes. Trans whines after it warms up. ABS actives when stopping uphill almost every day. I live on a hill. Problem with check engine light comes on and off. Dealer has no clue. What a suprise! I like the way the ext and int looks. For the most part it runs great, never no problems with the motor. I do all my own maintence so I havent found any leaks. Two times a year I take it to the Nevada desert and bomb through the sand no problems at all. From CA to NV avg 22mpg.

  • Big hit on depreciation - $15,000 1 year - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Good ride over 2004. Think Edmunds is wrong about the back seat being cramped - its better then 2004 and adequate. They all should still have the 4x4 high and low - not just on demand 4x4. Without the high/low command track its not really a Jeep just a 4 wheel drive with limited off road ability. The rear cargo area height is lousy, my dogs can stand but rub the head liner in this Jeep, in the other version they could stand and not rub the headliner and I had better visibility. The dogs are 26 and 28 inches tall on all fours. I AM NOT GOING TO KEEP THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE THE TRADE IN VALUE HAS DEPRECIATED over $15,000 in one year; the vehicle is loaded listed for $34,400 and its value is $16K.

  • The Best Jeep Yet! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is a great vehicle. Very solid feel and very quiet. Excellent Boston stereo. Excellent exterior and very good interior. Nice "thud" when you shut the door. Build quality seems very good.

  • MOST reliable vehicle I have known - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I have the limited HEMI with QDII 4 wheel drive system. I have over 150,000 miles on her and let me say, I have more money into a 2008 town and country with 38,000 miles than I do into the Jeep. The jeep has been used and abused for the last few years. Ive gone offroading, towed 6,500 lbs countless times, and I constantly am flooring it to hear the HEMI SCREAM! The only problems I have had is a new ECM($300) and a loud bearing that I cant pinpoint(~$50). And of course new tires and brakes but any car needs those. This Jeep still has boatloads of power, and there is no sign of wear or tear. It looks like it has 5,000 miles on it. No rust despite several michigan winters. Great SUV!!!

I bought the 4.7L V8, not the 3.7L V6. Its not an option here, but I got it. The Boston Acoustics Speakers sound as great as the Bose Speakers. Im glad I got a better value than the Limited.

  • Very happy with my 3rd Grand Cherokee - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Excellent vehicle! I purchased a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with a Hemi in 2009 with only 38K miles on it. Got a great deal and moved up to now my 3rd JGC. Others being 1997 and 2003. I drove 20K in the first year with zero problems. Only money spent was on maintenance. I have purchased all my Jeeps a few years old to wait out the steep drop in value. I got a $42K car 4 years old in new condition for $17K. I added the best and longest extended warranty and love driving it every day. Of course the gas mileage is awful. It has a 5.7 L Hemi engine. We all know this going in.

  • mpg going down - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is my first Jeep and I think it is a great vehicle. When I first got it the computer said I was getting 19.2 mpg. around town. Now my tail pipe is black with soot and the best I can get is 17 on the highway. Took it to the dealer; they told me it was the way I drive and I put cheap gas in it. There was nothing wrong. If the problem does not hit them in the head they will not look for it. Service department stinks just like most dealerships. I only have 2500 miles on it. The mpg should have gotten better. Outside of that I highly recommend the grand Cherokee. It is night and day over the 2004.

  • Can you say "Hemi" - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

The truck is redesigned to look more square and boxier with a tougher profile and even tougher engine...the Hemi. Ive driven all the suvs in the $35-50K range and you definately get the most bang for your buck in the 05 Grand Cherokee Limited. So much power to spare you feel like your driving a BMW off the line, a lexus on the highway and a rover off- road. Overall, very sweet ride.
